Saint Étienne - Drei in einer - Three in one

Ich habe die größte, die älteste und die abwechslungsreichste Kirche besucht, nun sehe ich die verrückteste. St. Étienne verwirrt, irgendwie passt nichts zueinander, die Kirche wirkt wie zufällig zusammen gebaut aus Dingen, die noch da waren. Und der Eindruck täuscht nicht, die Kirche entstand aus drei unabhängig von einander entstandenen und nicht vollendeten Bauten aus dem 13. und 14. Jh, der letzte Anbau, das Nordportal, stammt aus unserer Zeit.
So, mal sehen, ob wir das Puzzle fertig kriegen, aus dem Jahr 1078 haben wir Mauerreste am Glockenturm und Kapitelle im Kirchenschiff, 1210 entstand das heutige Kirchenschiff, quadratisch, praktisch, gut - 19 Meter breit und 19 Meter hoch. Zum Ende dieses Jahrhunderts folgte der Bau des Chores, der gigantisch werden sollte, aber Bauherr tot, Geld alle, schnell ne Plane als Dach angetackert und warten, was kommt. 1609 kam ein Feuer, das das provisorische Dach und das Mobiliar zerstörte, dann wurde weiter gebaut, aber kleiner als geplant, dann wurde es eher mysteriös, es wurde von Jean d'Orléans ein sehr dicker Pfeiler in der Vierung errichtet, dann wurde das Nordportal eingelassen, dass erst 500 Jahre später fertig wurde.
Also haben wir innen einen unvollendeten Chor und ein verkürztes Kirchenschiff, außen einen gotischen Wehrturm und ein dezentriertes Portal, auf der Nordseite die friedliche Koexistenz von nordeuropäischer und meridionaler Gotik, und die Chorseite sich von außen aus wie alle. Et Voilà - fertig ist das Kirchenpuzzle.

Let's see, if we can do the puzzle, we have the remains from the walls from 1078 in the bell tower and in the capitals of the nave, 1210 they made a new nave, the one we see today, it's a kind of cube, 19 meters wide, 19 high, they wanted a giant choir, but the principal died and the money was spent, so they put some wood as a roof on it and waited what will happen. 1609 came fire, destroyed the roof and the furniture, so they decided to finish the choir, but smaller as planned, and now it became a bit mysterious, there was a giant pile errected by Jean d'Orleans in the middle of the crossing, and later the north gate was built, which was only finish 500 years later.
So we do have inside unfinished choir, and a short nave, at the outside a giant bell tower like a fortress and a decentered gate at the north side, at the garden front the peaceful coexistence of north europian and meridional gothic, and the choir looks from the outside like all choirs, et voilà, the church puzzle is done.
