Noch ein Triumphbogen - La Défense Paris - And one more triumphal arch

Und von der Plattform des Triumphbogens haben wir schon unser nächstes Ziel erkennen können, Le Grande Arche, der große Bogen, der eher ein Kubus ist und das Tor zum Hochhausviertel vor den Toren der Stadt. La Défense ist ein sehr modernes, futuristisches Viertel, der Inbegriff zukunftsweisender Architektur und ist schon über 60 Jahre alt, Überraschung. Die Bebauung besteht mehrheitlich aus Bürohochhäuser und wird von der Grand Arche dominiert. Zum ersten Mal gehört habe ich von La Défense Anfang der 90er Jahre als die Bebauung des Potsdamer Platzes in Berlin diskutiert wurde und blumige Versprechen versprachen, die neue Mitte Berlins würde ein zweites La Défense werden. Naja, um es vorwegzunehmen, hat nicht geklappt, wenn überhaupt, ist es ein La Défense für Arme, aber eigentlich sind es nur ein paar Hochhäuser und ne Shopping Mall.

Hier ist alles riesig, aber mit Stil und hergekommen sind wir, weil meine Freundin ihrer Tochter die riesigen Skulpturen von Joan Miró zeigen wollte. Aber es gibt noch mehr Kunst, allen voran das Denkmal, das dem Viertel seinen Namen gab, La Défense de Paris von Louis-Ernest Barrias, eine Erinnerung an den Krieg von 1870, ein silberfarbenes Samenkorn, aus dem ein Baum wächst und dafür gibt es ein „Daumen hoch“ vom Künstler Igor Mitoraj. Außerdem gibt es eine gigantische rote Spinne, eine regenbogenfarbene Stele, Wasserspiele, Kaskaden und Springbrunnen, weite Straßen und viele Geschäfte und zum Schluss den Blick auf den Arc de Triomphe mit dem Basin Takis im Vordergrund. Ein schöner Ausflug in die Moderne, wir kehren jetzt zurück in das Dorf auf dem Märtyrerhügel und gönnen uns lecker Muscheln und Crêpes.

From the observatory of the Triumphal Arche we saw already our next goal, the next triumphal arch, what is more a cube and serves as the gate to a skyscraper area in front of the city. La Défense is a modern, futuristic quarter, the epitome of pioneering architecture and is about 60 years old, surprise. The buildings are mostly office facilities and are dominated by the Grand Arche. First time I heard about La Défense, it was in the beginning of the 90s, when they were discussing the new creation of the Potsdamer Platz in Berlin and promises have been promised that the new centre of Berlin will be as spectacular like that La Défense. Spoiler alert, they failed, it’s, if you can say so, La Défense 3rd class, or at least a bunch of skyscrapers and a shopping mall. 

Here everything is gigantic, but with style and we came here mostly for the big sculptures of Joan Miró, my friend wanted to show her daughter. But there is even more art, first of all the monument after the whole area is named, La Défense de Paris by Louis-Ernest Barrias, to remember the defense of Paris in the war of 1870, a silvery seed where a small tree is growing out, for that the artist Igor Mitoraj gives a ‘Thumb-up’. Plus there is a giant red spider, a rainbow coloured column, fountains, cascades, bassinets, wide alleys, and many stores. At the end we have a view onto the Triumphal Arche with the Basin Takis in front. It was a lovely trip into modernism and now we are heading back to our small village on the hill of martyrs and will have some tasty clams and crêpes.
