Ueno Zoo

Mein Patenkind wird zwei Jahre alt und wir wollen ihren Geburtstag feiern. Noch ein Grund für meine Japan-Reisen im Oktober. Letztes Jahr um diese Zeit war ich hier im Mickey-Mouse-Land (http://fraumb-far-far-away.blogspot.jp/2016/04/gespenster-im-mickey-mouse-land-ghost.html) und dachte, das wäre ein schöner Geburtstag für Lydia. Nach etwas hin und her reden, meinten die Eltern, vielleicht lieber der Zoo, weil das Kind abends, wenn die Paraden stattfinden, sonst schon müde ist und schläft oder heult. Ich dachte so, ooch nö, kein Zoo. Aber Lydia soll zufrieden sein.
Der Zoo im Ueno Park ist winzig und nicht gut beleumundet. In einem Video wurde gezeigt, wie ausgebrochene Tiere wieder eingefangen werden. Dazu zog ein Mitarbeiter ein Tigerkostüm aus dem Halloween-Ausverkauf an und sprang geschmeidig auf den Parkwegen herum, bis die alarmierten Tierpfleger ein Netz aufspannten und er sich darin verhedderte. Mission erfüllt. Spaß und Gaudi? Kann sein, aber so humorvoll schätze ich die Leute hier nicht ein. Hatte eher den Eindruck, dass hier ein Wildtier und ein Tamagotchi verwechselt wurde.
Also, gehen wir in den Zoo. Der Eintrittspreis ist mit 600¥ (5,20€) sehr moderat und es gibt zahlreiche Familien und Schulklassen hier. Die Anlage ist sehr alt und kann nicht erweitert werden. Sie stammt noch aus einer Zeit, als der Zoobesucher die Tiere ansehen sollte, nicht beobachten. Die Käfige und Gehege sind winzig, wie die Wohnungen der Leute hier, es gibt kaum Bepflanzung und einige Tiere sehen echt ramponiert aus. Etwas besser war die Unterbringung der Hühner und Meerschweinchen.
Als Park hingegen ist der Zoo schön. Also, warum nicht die Käfige abbauen und stattdessen einen Abenteuerspielplatz mit Tierfiguren errichten. Einziges Plus, ich konnte die fünfstöckige Pagode aus der Nähe sehen.
Nächstes Jahr, Lydia, gehen wir zu den Mickey Mousies, die werden artgerecht gehalten.

My godchild turns two and we want to celebrate her birthday. Another reason why I come to Japan in October. Last year, same time I went to the Mickey-Mouse-Land (http://fraumb-far-far-away.blogspot.jp/2016/04/gespenster-im-mickey-mouse-land-ghost.html) and had the idea, that would be great for Lydia's birthday. After talking there and back, the parents were like, why not the zoo. Because in the evening, when the parades take place, the child would be tiered and sleepy or worse cranky. I thought, oh nooo, no zoo, pleeeease. But Lydia shall be satisfied.
The zoo in Ueno Park is tiny and got a bad reputation. In a video was shown, how the staff is exercising to catch a broken out animal. One of them pulled over an tiger costume from the Halloween sale and was jumping in good mood around the park and the others were chasing him and put up a net and did catch him. Mission completed. Fun? Joke? Could be, but mostly they don't appear that humorous. Seems more, they can't tell the difference between a wild beast and a tamagotchi.
Let's go to the zoo. The entry fee, 600¥ (5,20€/5,70$) is quite moderate and so there are many families and school kids. The facilities are old and the place can't be enlarged. It's from a time, when visitors wanted to see the animals, not to watch them. The cages and compounds are small, like the apartments for humans here, there is nearly no planting in and some animals look really battered. A bit better was the place for the guinea pigs and the chickens.
As a park the zoo is beautiful. So, why not tear down all the enclosures and make an adventure play ground out of it, with a lot of animal sculptures. One good thing, I finally could see the five storey pagoda from near.
Next year, Lydia, we go and see Mickey Mouse and friends, they are kept species-appropriate.
