Covent Garden und noch mehr London - Covent Garden and some more London

Heute ist Abflug, gleich geht's nach Tokyo. Vorher treffe ich noch Merle auf einen Kaffee und nen Schwatz. Wir treffen uns an der King's Cross Station, denn ich wollte gern zu Gleis 9 3/4. Merle meint, dort wäre es sehr voll und man müsste anstehen für ein Foto. Voll? Anstehen? Genau die Zauberworte, die mich von jedem Ort fern halten. Nach kurzer Zeit sind Kaffee und Kuchen vertilgt und richtig wirklich gemütlich ist ein Bahnhofscafé nicht, also schauen wir mal, was es noch so zu sehen gibt. Covent Garden. Wird immer gern genommen.
Merle und ihre Freundin sind zum ersten Mal hier, da ist das ein Muss. Ich mag es dort. Oft wird gesagt oder geschrieben, es wäre eine Touristenfalle. Sehe ich nicht so. Wo es Touristen gibt, gibt es Andenkenläden und auch sonst gibt es eine ähnlich bunte Mischung wie in Camden. Allerdings sind die Hallen spektakulär. Und mir vertraut, aus Filmen wie 'My Fair Lady' und Büchern wie den Krimis von Deborah Crombie oder den Romanen aus der Serie die 'Flüsse von London' von Ben Aaronovitch. Jedesmal, wenn ich in London bin, besuche ich Covent Garden. Ist ein bisschen, wie nach Hause kommen.
Anschließend mache ich mich langsam auf den Weg zum Flughafen, ganz ganz langsam. Dabei laufe ich erstmal zu The Strand, am Embankment lang, gehe kurz auf die Waterloo Bridge, um schöne Fotos zu machen, gehe dann in Richtung Trafalger Square und dann weiter zum Picadilly Circus, die Oxford Street hinauf zur Marble Arch und zum Hyde Park. Dann gönne ich mir noch eine kurze Busfahrt zum Bahnhof King's Cross zurück, um auf meinen Flughafenzubringer zu warten.
Mein Konzert? Findet nächstes Jahr in London statt. Also bis bald.

Today is take off for Tokyo. But first I meet Merle for a coffee and a chat. We meet at King's Cross Station, because I want to go to platform 9 3/4. Merle said, it's crowded there and you have to line up for a picture. Crowded? Line up? Exactly those magic words to keep me away from every place. After a short time coffee and cake are exterminated and the station coffee shop isn't cosy at all, so we go and see what else is here to be seen. Covent Garden. Always a favourite.
Merle and her friend are here for the first time, so it's a Must-Do. I do like it there. It's often said or written, it's a tourist trap. Don't agree here. When there are tourists, then there are souvenir shops. And you find here a similar mix of goods like in Camden. But the market halls are spectacular. And they are familiar to me out of movies like 'My Fair Lady' or books like the thrillers from Deborah Crombie or the 'Rivers of London' series from Ben Aaronovitch. Every time I'm in London, I go and see Covent Garden. It's a bit like coming home.
After that I'm slowly going to the airport, very very slowly. First I walk to The Strand, along the embankment, take a short walk at Waterloo Bridge for taking nice photographs, then I'm bound for Trafalgar Square, then Picadilly Circus, along Oxford Street to Marble Arch and then to Hyde Park. After that I enjoy a short bus ride to King's Cross Station to wait for my airport shuttle.
