Einkaufen in der Yanaka Ginza Dori - Tokyo - Shopping at Yanaka Ginza Dori

Wer schon in Tokyo war, denkt bei Ginza Dori vermutlich zuerst an die breiten Straßen und großen Geschäften und Kaufhäuser mit luxuriösen Produkten bekannter Nobelmarken im gleichnamigen Stadtteil, aber Gin bedeutet Silber und Za ist der Ort, also ein Platz an dem Silver gelagert und verarbeitet wird. Darum ist es nicht verwunderlich, dass es auch in anderen Gegenden Straßen mit diesem Namen gibt, zum Beispiel in Yanaka.

Als ich zum ersten Mal hier war, habe ich nur einen kurzen Abstecher in die Straße gemacht (http://fraumb-far-far-away.blogspot.co.uk/2012/01/yanaka-die-altstadt-von-tokyo-tokyos.html), inzwischen war ich oft hier. 

Silber gibt es heute keines mehr, dafür viele kleine und kleinste Läden, die Lebensmittel, Sake (auch ein Lebensmittel), Kleidung, Kunsthandwerk oder Tee verkaufen. Eine hübsche kleine Einkaufsstraße, mit verstaubtem Charme und ebensolchen Schaufenstern, wie es sie wahrscheinlich mehrere noch gibt in Tokyo. Was sie so besonders macht, jedenfalls für mich, sind die vielen Katzen, sie zieren Textilien und Tassen, man findet sie als Statuen vor den Läden oder als täuschend echte Nachbildung auf den Dächern. Und lebende Katzen gibt es auch, und zwar jede Menge, vor allem auf dem nahen Friedhof. 

Ditas meinte, es hätte wohl damit angefangen, dass einige Leute die streunenden Katzen auf dem Friedhof gefüttert haben. Vielleicht haben sie Trost erfahren, in dem sie sich um andere Bedürftige gekümmert haben, niemand weiß es genau zu sagen. Die Katzen wurden zutraulich und gehören heute zum Friedhof einfach dazu. Einige tragen Halsbänder und es scheint so, als ob die Fütterung inzwischen generalstabsmäßig organisiert ist, ebenso wird dafür gesorgt, dass die Population nicht ausufert. Naja, und wenn es auf dem Friedhof zu ruhig wird, dann gehen die Samtpfoten halt mal in der Einkaufsstraßen bummeln, und bestimmt fällt auch hier der eine oder andere Leckerbissen oder eine Streicheleinheit ab.

Those, who have been in Tokyo before, may think of wide alleys with huge stores or malls filled with luxury goods from well known noble brands when it comes to Ginza Dori. But I don’t talk about the district of Ginza. Gin means just silver and Za is a place, it’s a place where silver is stored and worked on. Therefore it’s no wonder that there Ginza-Doris in other areas too, for instance in Yanaka. 

First time I came here, I just took a quick look (http://fraumb-far-far-away.blogspot.co.uk/2012/01/yanaka-die-altstadt-von-tokyo-tokyos.html), meanwhile I was here often. 

There is no silver here anymore, but many small and smaller shops, where food, Sake (kind of food too), clothes, crafts or tea is sold. A nice little shopping street with a antiquated charm and shopworn windows, you will find severals in Tokyo. What makes it special, special to me, are the cats. They are everywhere, on shirts and cups, as statues in from of shops or as models on rooftops. And there are living cats as well, loads of them, especially at the cemetery nearby.

My friend Ditas said, it may have started with some people at the graveyard feeding stray cats. Maybe they found consolation in taking care for someone needy. Who knows. The cats became kind of tame and nowadays they are a part of the cemetery. It seems that today the feeding is organised with military precision and animal activists take care that the number won’t get out of hand. And, if it’s a bit boring at the graveyard, they go to the shopping street for window shopping, could be they get some treats and get petted.
