Jetzt wird’s exotisch - Shinjuku Gyoen Greenhouse - It’s getting exotic now

Da der Park mal als landwirtschaftliches Entwicklungsgebiet angefangen hat, gibt es hier auch ein Gewächshaus, und zwar seit 1892. Im Gebäude gibt es auch zwei Schautafeln, die das historische Glashaus zeigen, sehr schön viktorianisch (Großbritannien und Übersee) beziehungsweise Gründerzeitstil (Deutschland). Es gibt auch Etliches an Text, aber nur mono-lingual. Wir sehen, der Angestellte am Einlass war offenbar nicht der Einzige mit limitierten Englischkenntnissen.

Das jetzige Haus stammt aus den 50ern des vergangenen Jahrhunderts und beherbergt um die 1700 verschiedene tropische und subtropische Pflanzen. Am Eingang werden wir vor herabfallenden Wassertropfen gewarnt, hoffen wir mal, dass es nicht so schlimm wird. Es gibt einen unteren und teilweise einen oberen Rundgang, so dass man auch den Baumkronen auf Augenhöhe begegnen kann. 

Die Sammlung ist nicht spektakulär, also nichts dabei, was es nicht auch in andren Gewächshäusern gäbe, aber viele Pflanzen standen in Blüte, alles ist gefällig arrangiert und einfach schön anzusehen. 

Und es scheint auch die Möglichkeit zu geben, Pflanzen, Samen oder Stecklinge zu erwerben, bin mir aber nicht sicher. 

Because the park started as an agricultural development facility there is a greenhouse too, already since 1892. Inside the building are some billboards showing the historic glasshouse, very beautiful in Victorian style (Great Britain and Overseas) or Gründerzeit style (Germany). There is some text too, but only mono-lingual. Seems the employee at the entrance was not the only one with limited English knowledge. 

The current building is from the 50s of the last century and is housing about 1700 different tropical and subtropical plant species. At the entry we are warned about falling down water drops, so we can not say, that we were not warned. There is a walkway at the ground and a smaller one on a higher level, so we can meet the tree crown at eye level. 

The collection is not really spectacular, nothing you won’t find in other greenhouses too, but many plants were blooming, it’s all nicely displayed and beautiful to look at. 

And it seems there is an opportunity to buy plants, seeds or scions, but not sure about.
