Hamburg

Nach Hamburg fahren die Leute wegen der Musicals, ich wegen der Musik. War in zwei Jahren zweimal dort und es gefällt mir, vor allem die Leute. Und wenn ich, als Misantrophin im fortgeschrittenen Stadium das finde, dann müssen die da alle super sein. Sie sind cool und freundlich dabei, und es scheint, sie müssen sich da keine Mühe geben.
Und wenn ich schon mal da bin, dann schaue ich mich gleich mal um, zu Fuß, mit dem Bus, mit dem Schiff, genaugenommen mit zwei Schiffen.
Ich beginne mitten in der Mitte, kleine Alster und Rathaus und Rathausplatz und dann weiter Richtung Nikolaikirche.
Das Hamburger Rathaus, wie wir es heute sehen, ist vermutlich das sechste, die Vorgänger standen anderswo und wurden um oder abgebaut, oder brannten ab, nach dem Feuer von 1842 war wieder ein neuer Regierungssitz fällig, er sollte entstehen hinter der Trostbrücke an der kleinen Alster. Es dauerte etwas bis alle sich geeinigt hatten, welcher Entwurf verwirklicht wird und wer alles bezahlt, Demokratie hat definitiv auch Nachteile, aber das Warten hat sich gelohnt. Das Haus ist ein Gesamtkunstwerk und eine Augenweide. Architektonisch eines der besten Beispiele für den Historismus in Deutschland. Granit, Sandstein, Kupfer auf 111 Metern Breite und 112 Metern Höhe. Davor der große Platz mit viel Platz für Markt- und anderes Treiben.
Weiter geht's über besagte Trostbrücke, vorbei am Haus der Patriotischen Gesellschaft, das einst das Rathaus beherbergte, bis zur Nikolaikirche. Die ist heute ein Mahnmal für die Opfer des letzten Krieges, ein sehr eindrucksvolles dazu. Besonders gefallen hat mir der Engel...

Most people go to Hamburg for Musicals, I go to Hamburg for music. I've been there two times in two years and I like it there, especially the people. And if I do say so, as an advanced misanthropist, then they must be really great. They are cool and friendly, and it seems to be so easy for them.
So, when I'm here, I take a look around, by foot, by bus, by boat, to tell the truth two boats.
I start right in the middle, small Alster, town hall and town hall square, and than to the Nikolai Church.
The town hall we see today is the sixth of its kind, the other were in different places and were rebuilt or demolished or burnt down the last one in 1842, and there for a new town hall was needed. It shall be build behind the Trostbrücke (consolation bridge) at the small Alster. It took awhile until there was an agreement between all and everybody about the design and who has to pay for everything, sometimes democracy is a disadvantage, but it was worth the waiting. The building is a gesamtkunstwerk and a feast for the eyes. Architectonical it's one of the best examples for Historism in Germany. Granite, freestone, copper at 111 meters length and 112 meters high, and in front a square with a lot of space for market and other bustle.
Then I cross the mentioned Trostbrücke, I pass the House of the Patriotic Society, which once housed the town hall and go to the church St.Nikolai, which is a ruin today and a memorial for the victims of the last war, and it's a beautiful and impressive one. I liked best the angel...
