Natinal Gallery

Der Reiseführer lobt das Museum als bedeutendstes Kunstmuseum Irlands und meint, man könne nur staunen, was dieses kleine und meist sehr arme Land an Schätzen zusammen getragen hat. Ich fand, es ist ein "Galleriechen", und ja, es gibt bedeutende Kunstwerke, aber eher von Künstlern aus der zweiten Reihe, die ganz berühmtem Gemälde der ganz großen Meister hängen woanders. Anfangs dachte ich, dass ich verwöhnt bin von Berlin, Dresden, Paris, London, St.Petersburg, und dann hatte ich die Idee, dass Irland lange Zeit ein sehr armes Land war, vielleicht war auch die Oberschicht, die Kunstschätze sammeln kann, nicht so wohlhabend wie anders wo, zum Schluss glaubte ich, ich wäre schlicht zu blöd, die anderen drei Etagen zu finden, die zum Museum gehören, schließlich kann eine National Galerie nicht nur aus drei Räumen bestehen. Eine genauere Inspektion des Lageplans und eine Nachfrage beim Personal ergab schließlich, dass zur Zeit zwei Drittel des Museums geschlossen sind. Also kein Caravaggio für mich heute.
Fotografieren war, wie überall hier in den Museen, nicht gestattet, darum habe ich das www bemüht.

The guidebook praises the museum as the most important in Ireland and says, one can only marvel how many treasures this small and often very poor country compiled. I think, it´s a "gallerylet", and yes there are important works, but more from artist from the second array, the most famous paintings of the very great masters are in different places. In the beginning, I thought I´m spoilt by Berlin, Dresden, Paris, London, St.Petersburg, than the idea came in my mind, that Ireland was a poor country the most of it´s time, so maybe the upper class, who can collect art is not that well situated than other where, in the end I thought, I´m simply to stupid, to find the other 3 floors of the museum, lastly a Natinal Gallery can´t consist of three rooms.
A more precisely examination of the floor guide and a question to the stuff came about, that two thirds of the museum were closed. So, no Caravaggio for me today.
