Egal, wir besuchen das letzte Jahrhundert, eine illustre Sammlung aus farbenfrohen Gemälden und wuchtigen Schränken, Bauhaus-Stühlen, einem Propellerflugzeug und Geschichte. Es gibt ein Schachspiel, eine Darstellung Nazi-deutscher Großmachtsfantasien und ein Fotoalbum der deutsch-jüdischen Familie Wachenheimer, das letzte Bild im letzten Album, ein neunjähriges Mädchen auf einem Fahrrad.
Und es gibt auch hier wieder einen Anklang an die niederländische Kolonialzeit, Gesichtsmasken der Einwohner von Nias/Indonesien.
Das ganze wirkt zusammengewürfelt und vielschichtig, genau wie das letzte Jahrhundert war. Aber auch etwas zufällig und planlos. Das Goldene Zeitalter des Museums ist definitiv die Etage mit der Nachtwache.

Now we must hurry, there is still half a century left. And the loud speakers are talking about the upcoming time off for the staff and the imminent lock in for tardy visitors. I'm a bit confused now, because on my ticket is written it's valid for 12 hours and I only bought it at 2pm.
Anyway, we go for the last century, an illustrious collection of colourful paintings and massive cabinets, Bauhaus - chairs, a propeller plane and history. There is a chessboard showing the major power fantasy of Nazi-Germans and a photo book of the German-Jewish Wachenheimer family, the last picture in the last photo book, showing a nine year old girl on a bicycle.
And again we find a connection to the Dutch colonial era, the face masks of inhabitants of Nias Island/Indonesia.
The whole space appears a bit motley and eclectic, like the last century itself. But also random and haphazard. The Golden Age of the museum is definitely the floor with the Nightwatch.
