Eines der auffälligsten Häuser in Eixample ist die Casa Battló, das Wohnhaus der Familie Battló i Casanovas. Das Haus stammt aus dem Jahr 1877 und da war im Jahr 1904 ein neues Haus fällig. Der Textilindustrielle beauftragte Antonio Gaudi mit dem Umbau und in zwei Jahren verwandelte der ein gewöhnliches Wohnhaus in eine steinerne Geschichte - der Heilige Georg und der Drache. Das Dach stellt die Schuppen des Drachen dar und das Kreuz darauf die Spitze der Lanze des Kriegers, die schmiedeeisernen Balkone vor den Fenster sind Totenköpfe und gaben dem Haus seinen Kosenamen, die Galerie in ersten Stock ist das Maul des Drachen. Die Fassade ist wunderschön bunt, aber ihren besonderen Reiz machen die sanften Wellenlinien aus, sie lassen das Haus eher als etwas organisch gewachsenes denn als aus Stein erbaut erscheinen. Die geschwungenen Linien finden sich auch im Inneren wieder, es gibt hier keinen rechten Winkel.
Die Einrichtung ist, obzwar gutbürgerlich gediegen, verspielt, innovativ, ganz im Geist des Modernisme.
Zu besichtigen sind der erste Stock, der Garten, der Lichthof, das Dachgeschoss und das Dach selbst.
Das Haus ist weiter in Privatbesitz und wird bewohnt, leider nicht von mir.....
One of the most outstanding buildings of Eixample is Casa Battló, the house of the family Battló i Casanova. It was build in 1877, that means in 1904 a new house was needed. The textile merchant asked Antonio Gaudi to rebuild his home and inbetween 2 years he made out of a simple living place a stony story of St. Georg and the dragon. The roof is the dander of the dragon, the cross on top the peak of the lance of the warrior, the wrought-iron balconies in front of the windows are skulls, wich made the nickname for that house and the gallery in the first floor is the mouth of the dragon. The front is very colorful, but what makes it so special are the smooth waves that are more like something living grown than something made of stone. Those curved lines are also be found inside the house, there is no square angle at all.
The interior is of course upper class stile, but even frisky, innovate, completely in the spirit of modernisme.
To be visit is the first floor, the garden, the halo, the attic and the roof.
The house is still owned by privat, people do live there, unfortunately not me.....
