Camden Market - London

Ich bin in London, aber nur auf der Durchreise. Eigentlich wollte ich ein Konzert besuchen, das aber wurde gecancelt. Hatte anfangs überlegt, das Gleiche zu tun, aber die Idee verworfen. Die drei Tage hier sind eine gute Möglichkeit, Bekannte aus Deutschland zu treffen, die ich sonst nie treffe, weil alle so weit weg wohnen. Ist das jetzt schlüssig erklärt?
Heute treffe ich Fizban und Bibs in Camden Town, einem Bezirk im Norden des inneren Stadtrings. Bekannt ist Camden für den Markt, der eigentlich sechs Märkte ist. Einen kleinen Lebensmittelmarkt hat es hier schon zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts gegeben, 1973 eröffnete ein kleiner Handwerksmarkt und dann gab es kein Halten mehr.
Heute gibt es Kunst und Kram, Trödel und Antiquitäten, Teures und Billiges, Handgemacht mit Liebe und Massenproduktion aus Asien, lecker Essen und Fastfood.
Das Herz der Anlage, Camden Lock Village, bekannt als Camden Lock Markt brannte 2008 nieder. Glücklicherweise gab es keine Verletzten. Heute hat die Anlage sich wieder erholt. Mir hat besonders der Teil gefallen, der Stable Market heißt. Umgebaute Pferdeställe und Remisen bieten heute Kleidung und Möbel feil und zwischendrin gibt es immer wieder Statuen von Pferden oder Hufschmieden, sowie Dekorationen als Reminiszenz an die Vergangenheit.
Und natürlich gefällt mir auch sehr, dass ich für den Preis eines Busfahrscheines eine Stadtrundfahrt von King´s Cross nach und zurück machen kann, und vom Oberdeck im Doppelstockbus hat man eine tolle Aussicht.

I'm in London, in transit. I wanted to go to a concert, but that was cancelled. First I had the idea to do the same, but dismissed that soon. The three days here are a great opportunity to meet friends from Germany I seldom meet at home, because they live to far away. Is that logical?
Today I meet Fizban and Bibs in Camden Town, a district in the north of the inner city circle. Camden is well known for its market place, what is in fact six markets. There have been a minor grocery market already in the beginning of the 20th century and in 1973 a small crafts market opened and then it couldn't be stopped.
Today you find art and stuff, lumber and antiques, expensive and cheap things, handmade with love and mass production from Asia, tasty and fast food.
The centrepiece of all, the Camden Lock Village, known as Camden Lock Market burned down in 2008, luckily no one was injured. Today the place recovered from that. I liked best the market called The Stables. Former horse stables and sheds are housing now shops selling fancy clothes and furniture, and in between some statues of horses and blacksmiths or ornaments as a reminiscence to the past.
Plus I like that I can have a sightseeing tour from King´s Cross to Camden Town for the price of a bus ticket and when sitting on the upper deck of the double-decker you have a great view.
