Sans souci

Ganz ohne Sorge mache ich mich auf den Weg den Alten Fritz zu besuchen. Genauer gesagt, das Schönste, was er uns hinterlassen hat, die Schlösser und Gärten von Sanssouci. Vorbei an der Friedenskirche und dem Marlygarten, die ich später aufsuchen werde, gelange ich zur Großen Fontäne, den Weinbergterassen und dem Sommerschloss von König Friedrich II. Ein Blick auf die Rückseite, den heutigen Haupteingang und ich stelle fest, auch andere sind kulturinteressiert, viele sogar. Da ich langes Anstehen nicht mag, suche ich mir weniger frequentierte Orte. Vorbei an der alten Mühle, einen Blick auf den sizilianischen Garten werfend, gelange ich zur Orangerie und hier kann ich ohne Anstehen ein Ticket für den ganzen Tag und für den ganzen Park erwerben und ohne Warten prompt an einer Führung teilnehmen...

Without any worry I'm on my way to visit the Old Fritz, or better I'm ging to see the most beautiful  he left for us, the Palaces and Gardens of Sanssouci. Passing the Church of Peace and the Garden Marly, wich I will visit later, I reach the Great Fontaine, the vineyard terrace and the Summer Palace of Friedrich II., the King of Prussia. Checking out the backyard and realise that a lot of people were interested in cultur, realy a lot. I don't like waiting in long lines, so I'm looking for places with less interests. Passing the Historic Mill, the Sicilian Garden and go to the Orangerie and here I can get a ticket without standing in the line for the whole day and the entire park and without waiting I can take part on a tour through the castle...

Mal kurz um´s Eck - Potsdam - Just around the corner

Ich brauchte eine Pause von Berlin und vom Alltag und habe mich kurz nach Potsdam verfügt, um im Hier und Heute Vergangenheit zu besuchen. Heute Landeshauptstadt von Brandenburg, nett, klein, übersichtlich, kuschelig am Südrand von Berlin gelegen, ist Potsdam berühmt als Residenzstadt Preußens. Friedrich der Große machte die Stadt, die unter seinem Vater Friedrich I. zur Garnisionsstadt wurde, zu seiner Residenz und lies von seinem Architekten Knobelsdorff ab 1745 das Sommerschloß Sans Souci erbauen, später kamen noch das Neue Palais, die Neuen Kammern und die Bildergalerie hinzu. Aber das alles hat Zeit bis morgen, heute promeniere ich über die Brandenburger Straße, die am Brandenburger Tor (also am Brandenburger Tor in Potsdam) beginnt und eine nette Einkaufsmeile mit vielen kleinen Läden, Cafés, Restaurants ist.

I need a break from Berlin and from my daily routine and so I went to Potsdam, to visit the past in the here and now. Today capital of Branbenburg county, neat, small, lucid, cosy placed at the south border of Berlin, is Potsdam famous as a Prussian residential city. Friedrich the Great made the city, wich became a garrison town under rule of his father Friedrich I., his residence and let the architect Knobelsdorff build his summer castle started in 1745, after that the New Palais, The New Chambers, The Picture Gallery followed. But that´s all for tomorrow, today I promenade at the Brandenburger Street, wich starts at Brandenburg Gate (at Brandenburg Gate in Potsdam) and is a nice shopping street with a lot of small shops. coffeeshops and restaurants.
